RED NOSES International started the platform’s first international call on 20th January 2025 for the Artistic Exploration Lab “Shaping Collective Spaces and Exploring Boundaries”, which will be open until 28 February 2025.

The project runs from May 2025 to January 2026, offering emerging performing artists the chance to learn and develop research questions related to arts and health. Through participatory action research and exchanges with acclaimed guides and like-minded colleagues, the Lab fosters artistic development and explores the possibilities of artistic research in this field.

The artistic research should address burning questions about implementing artistic practices in health, care, and community settings. Artists are encouraged to explore questions that confront various boundaries related to their work—such as those between countries, artistic disciplines, genders, artists and audiences, and between artistic organizations, hospitals, and other institutions in the arts for health space. 

During the 4 years the CultureAndHealth platform will aim to support 200+ artists. Therefore, given the budget restrictions, artists can only be granted one of the CultureAndHealth platform calls in the next four years of November 2024-October 2028: the national call, the European call fair or the European travel call.

“Associatione Oltre…” is offering a unique shadowing program for visual artists to collaborate on the 2025 International Soup Festival in Bologna, Italy. Artists skilled in various visual arts can join the program from April 28 to May 20, 2025, with two spots available. Applications are accepted until 6 April. Participants will help create visual materials for the festival, co-lead workshops, and engage in cultural exchange through art. The festival celebrates community and inclusivity, with a focus on food, particularly soup, as a unifying element. Artists will also gain insight into relational art practices and fostering inclusion across diverse groups. The program emphasizes social impact, including mental health prevention through participatory art. Participants will stay at Camere D’Aria, a community-driven cultural space.

The CultureAndHealth Platform is happy to announce that it is launching its first pilot national calls for project proposals in the period of February - June 2025 in Austria, Ireland, the Netherlands, Finland, Romania, Slovenia, Italy, Malta, Germany, Poland and Sweden. Given the different level of development of the area in the various EU countries, we will be adopting the calls to local circumstances. 

Each country is calling on passionate and engaged local artists to propose artistic/cultural projects that aim to improve health and well-being of individuals or communities through working interdisciplinary with the health, social or educational sectors.

Projects could include:

• participatory art programmes for people experiencing physical and mental illnesses
• projects that focus on prevention of illnesses or the forming of multiple health conditions
• art in healthcare or social environments including projects that enhance healthcare environments and support the staff’s and the patient’s well-being
• productions in healthcare or social settings: which could include performances, installations, exhibitions that support general well-being and highlight health-related issues
• artists residencies in healthcare or social care settings
• practice-based research activity

Perhaps you have a much better idea yourself that we have not thought of. Surprise us! However, it is important to know that research shows that participatory artistic projects that support at least eight encounters with the participants / communities identified ensure maximum effectiveness.

Important: 

1. All the above national calls will require the artist to reside in the given country in order to enable long-term cooperation between the artists, the communities he/she/they are working with and the health/social care/ education institution.
2. During the 4 years the CultureAndHealth Platform will aim to support 200+ artists. The CultureAndHealth Platform offers capacity building and training in various languages. Some of these trainings are country specific, some of them are international.  

The ongoing educational opportunities will contribute to the continuous improvement and impact driven direction of the participant’s work, while upholding high artistic quality standards.
